Now that BC is approaching the next phase of the pandemic response at the end of June, early July as announced by Dr. Bonnie Henry, this includes regional leisure travel.

Vancouver Whale Watch is excited to announce that our tours will be starting July 1st. As we anticipate the next phase, we have been busy developing additional safety measures and comprehensive operating procedures, to ensure the safety of our team and our guests. Please see our safety plan HERE.

This is a wonderful opportunity for BC residents to explore their own backyard. Vancouver Whale Watch would be grateful to provide the experience of a lifetime to show our neighbors majestic whales in the wild as well as other magnificent marine wildlife and stunning scenery.

Come experience the beautiful sunshine and the fresh West Coast Air. Departing from the charming historic village known as Steveston – The Gateway to the Whales.

COVID-19 Announcement:

Vancouver Whale Watch has always operated within a strong federal regulatory framework that naturally creates a culture of safety. However, we have been working diligently to be prepared for opening during these different times and moving forward. We have developed and implemented enhanced health & safety protocols that will ensure the safety, the confidence, and exceed the expectations of our employees and our visitor/guests.

  • Our staff and passengers will be required to complete health declarations and temperature checks prior to work and pre-boarding.
  • Zero tolerance policy for illness in the workplace.
  • Passengers and staff will be required to wear protective face covering when social distancing is not possible.
  • Employees of Vancouver Whale Watch have the right to deny boarding to any passenger if there are any health or compliance concerns.
  • Strict cleaning and sanitization protocols are in place at check-in and on board our shuttles and vessels.
  • We are using technology solutions to reduce contact such as prepaying options and submitting digital waivers.
Please note that cash payments are still accepted.

Join our Professional Wildlife Guides for a 3 to 5 hour whale watching tour, starting in the picturesque West Coast fishing village of historic Steveston and traveling through the spectacular Gulf and San Juan Islands. Our extensive whale spotting network, has given us a 90% sighting success rate. Our whale watching tour focuses on magnificent Orcas (Killer Whales) and majestic Humpback Whales, and other marine wildlife such as Porpoises, Sea Lions, Seals and Bald Eagles.

  • In 2015, in an effort to support our oceans and marine wildlife research, Vancouver Whale Watch has implemented a conservation fee of $2.00 per person. This fee will be collected at the time of check-in.

Our vessels are expedition style Zodiacs specifically designed for marine mammal viewing. They travel over the top of the water instead of pounding through it increasing passenger comfort and safety as well as reducing the chance of seasickness. Our Explorathor II (open) and Express (semi-covered) vessels use water jets which are extremely safe for marine mammals. All three of our ocean going vessels are equipped with washrooms.

The first whale watching company to operate from the mainland. This year we celebrate 20 years of viewing wild mammals in their natural habitat.

Our “Orca Express” shuttle is a comfortable, air-conditioned 24 passenger bus offering round trip transportation for $15.00 per person. Pick up is from nine prominent downtown Vancouver locations.

Parking avaliable.

Steveston is a lovely historic fishing village just 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Each trip starts in this prime marine environment allowing for immediate access to diverse wild life. Before or after the tour guests can enjoy the museums, shops, scenic areas, fish & chips or an ice cream.

Professional Wildlife Guides are on board each trip to enhance passengers knowledge and enjoyment. They have completed courses in Marine Emergency Training and First Aid.

We have a 90% sighting success rate, however should you not see a whale you can come again for free until you do – for life, no expiry.
